Have courage when you are battle weary – you are not alone
3. The Weak – Someone without strength and not able to bear the great weight upon them. The weak may be lacking the quality that enables them to resist an attack. Sometimes it can be that they are battle fatigued, because they have been fighting the spiritual war for too long. Weak Daywalkers may be easily broken, they may be close to that tipping point, so we need to be gentle. We all have that tipping point, and Bam!, emotions or anger are everywhere. The Spirit is strong, but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:40-43).
The weak are struggling to stand, so they NEED support like a pillar to hold them up. Support to keep them form losing the current battle they are fighting in this spiritual war. The foundation under a pillar has to be strong, since it has the weight bearing responsibilities. In Exodus 17, the Amalekites came against the children of God as they journeyed out of the wilderness. Joshua and the men he chose were fighting while the leaders Moses, Aaron and Hur went up on top of the hill. Moses held up his hands and staff to the Lord, lifting their needs to God. As the battle continued, Moses arms weakened and began to drop and the enemy began to prevail. Remember, God didn’t send Moses upon the Hill alone. Aaron an Hur moved a stone under Moses to keep him upright and they stood alongside Moses and held his arms up toward the heavens to submit the battle to God. Their support changed the battle and the children of God won the war. Moses didn’t have the strength on his own for the task that God had before him, God provided support. He was humble enough to accept the assistance.
I find the complexity of the weaknesses in the story very interesting, because there wasn’t one person that was weak – but many. God prepared them all to stand together to fight the enemy and each role was significant for victory. Different seasons in our lives we may find ourselves to be as Joshua fighting on the battlefield and needing our elders upon the hill with a godly perspective, lifting the battle to God. Sometimes we may find ourselves to be like Moses and called to lift the battles of others up to God and find that we need support ourselves. Yet, other times we may see others around us struggling and God calls us to roll a stone under them for support or that we need to stand alongside them holding their arms up to heaven. Imagine how the story could have been different if one person didn’t submit to the task that God had before him. The task of being an encourager can be vital to victory of a battle.
In a recent season of darkness I was so blessed by another friend. I love it when God shows you what He has done through the words He gives us. Sometimes we try to encourage and aren’t really around to see if it was encouraging and other times God allows us to see what He did through us. In a recent storm, I found myself weak and struggling to stand on solid ground of truth. When deceit and manipulation comes into the story, be sure that darkness is looming. I knew I needed help pulling my bootstraps of peace up, in humility I reached out to a couple friends whom I knew that I could trust and would be honest about all the crazy that was going on.
These lovely sisters in Christ was more than happy to help me Stand with me in truth, daily. One of them was the faithful friend that stood alongside me when I was fainthearted, I knew she would lift my eyes and set my feet on truth. The other friend had in recent years been through similar battles and could share wisdom of experience with me. The Lord allowed me to stand alongside her during her dark season just a few years ago. She was pretty pleased to throw my words (His Words) of encouragement back at me. 🙂 Sometimes we know, but we need a dose of it ourselves, because we are weak. Don’t make the mistake of assuming that someone is strong, because they are an encourager. Remember we all experience trials and tribulations and need help from time to time as well. Oh what a blessing it was to see Holy Spirit and His joy in her. He raised her up and strengthened her and now she was the one that God used to support me the most. We never know who God brings along side us or who He might call us to stand alongside. When God wants to shine a light, He will shine it.
Can you remember a time when you were battle weary? Remember when you didn’t have the strength to stand above the circumstances? Remember a time when you needed support to be upright? Remember a time when someone rolled a foundational stone under you?
If you are in a season feeling worn down and not sure what to do or what to think, then LOOK UP and ask the Lord for someone to walk alongside you. Focus on what the Word says is Truth, the answer is there, the encouragement can be found in the truth. Even the strongest need someone they can trust to lean on. Choose who you lean on wisely. Consider the foundation of the pillar needs to be the truth of God, the Cornerstone. Also consider that sometimes people are not strong enough to be a pillar of support in the heat of a battle because of their own weaknesses. Seek encouragement and comfort in the Psalms. The Psalms are full of emotion, and encouragement from a battle weary soldier and know that you are not alone.
Psalm 46:10 – Be Still and KNOW that I AM God.
Glory be to God
